The Emperor of China
A Gothic Tale of Power and Poverty
Two factions of tramps live in and around an abandoned railway goods yard on the edge of a large, modern Australian city. The dominating leader has a past he can't remember. He was mugged in the city where he instantly lost his memory and all identification.
For three years he has lived in a part of the camp which he calls China. He defiantly holds onto it against forces both outside and within. As far as he's concerned, he's the Emperor of China. He owns it and will defend it with his life.
When China is threatened by developers, the Emperor confronts the offending company, only to come face to face with his past. He is in fact the fifth richest man in Australia. He owns the Company.
The Company actually owns China and is going to destroy it. It cannot be saved. He is faced with a huge moral dilemma: to return to his previous life, or move on with the tramps and the true meaning of wealth and freedom he discovered in his time as Emperor.
